Season four of Orange Is The New Black was released on June 17, 2016 and it was another hit! I just finished watching all of season four not too long ago and I really loved it! From a scale of one to ten, with ten being the best, I definitely give it a solid ten. I’m pretty bummed out though at the fact that we have to wait until next summer to get season five. It just seems so far away from now and season four left me wondering whether or not Daya will actually shoot. I don’t know what will happen, but I do not think that she will go through with it and shoot Humphrey. I could be wrong, but I just don’t think she’ll do it.
This season I was not so interested in Piper’s character. I didn’t really like the person she had turned into within the first couple of episodes. I didn’t enjoy watching her trying to be tough and demonstrating that she runs the place. Her character definitely faces the outcome of trying to be someone that holds more power over others. There were just certain moments where I didn’t really care if Piper was or was not in some of the episodes. Hopefully, when the next season comes around I will find more interest in her character a bit more.
I thought it was great that we finally got to see how Crazy Eyes ended up in prison. It was pretty sad to watch how it happened. She didn’t have any bad intentions of trying to hurt the little boy. Things just happened and he died in a very horrible way. I don’t think she realized how it was not okay to take him back to her place. She made a few mistakes without knowing that they were mistakes. In this season we also get to learn a little bit more about Blanca and her story. Her story brought out a very disturbing and unbelievable scene for me. It was the scene where she is having sex with the man that used to work for the elderly woman that she works for. It was very funny, yet I could not believe what was going on. I think what made this scene so crazy was the fact that she was having sex with him in the elderly woman’s bedroom, while the elderly woman was in there the whole time. She witnesses them having sex and something about that whole scene was a little awkward.
Judy King’s character was a pretty cool addition this season. However, I did not have a huge interest in her character. I liked her and I think she fit well, but I wasn’t in love with her. I think the idea of having someone famous come into the prison was absolutely brilliant. I do want to know what will happen to her because she was released, but never gets to make it out. This season I ended up liking Nicky’s character way more. I felt like her character stood out more this season and I enjoyed watching her.
One of my favorite characters this season was Lolly! I loved her and Lori Petty did an amazing job playing her. I like the bond that she had with Healy. It was very sad watching her get sent to psych. Her story was so interesting and it was very unfortunate to watch this character that has potential live in these circumstances because of her mental illness. I think her character really showed everyone how difficult it is to live with a mental condition. It definitely shows us how much it affects your life. I just loved Lolly and I really do hope we get to see her in season five and I hope we see her a lot.
The most striking thing about this season had to be the death of Poussey. I could not believe that she had died! It was insane and no other show has ever left me in the amount of shock that I was in. It was very sad and unbelievable. Before I finished watching the season, my friends were already telling me that there was something very unexpected in the season that will leave me very surprised. I had no idea what it could be, but I definitely never imagined that Poussey’s character would die and this would be it for her. I feel like there will be something missing now in the next season because she won’t be in it. It’s going to be a bit weird not having her be part of the cast anymore so I’m excited to see what the next season will bring us.
Overall, season four was really great. It had a lot of surprises, blood, tears, and so much more. Nothing was forgotten and everything that people would want to watch was in it. I do have to say that I think this season depicted more emotions than the other seasons. I think this one was intended to be emotional. Go watch season four on Netflix! It is amazing and you won’t regret watching it. Just make sure you are old enough because the show has its moments where it might get a little raunchy.
